It's Great To Be Alive!

Great shot from today's run!

Well, I've been fortunate enough to be getting out and "hitting the pavement" in spite of the snow and ice storms that have been hitting. Although yesterday was a snow day, today was quite warm and the roads were clear.

I was thinking how great if felt to be alive, running outside on a glorious winter day with the snow still soft and white on the trees.

There were even some people ice fishing on the lake. I still feel exhilarated and it was hours ago already!

I've been having some "issues" with my left shoulder lately. I don't know if it's a nerve or what, but certain movements aggravate it.

All I can say is... Thank God I don't need my shoulder to run!

Another Point of View

This is my favorite shot from today's run

This is the new "point of view" I saw on my run today!

I had a great run today! Although the roads were a bit icy, it was very invigorating and not too cold.
I'm trying to make a lot of changes in my life.

I realized recently that I'm in a "rut" in many areas of my life and have continued many of the same actions out of habit. For example, I always run the same route by my house, the same exact way each time. So today I changed things up a bit and ran on some new terrain. I saw the road from a new perspective, the whole atmosphere, because I was going down it from a new direction. It was a lot of fun!

An then, rather un-coincidentally, a song came on that I don't normally hear on my ipod. (I was also listening to a playlist that I don't normally chose.) I think it says it all:

"Life is easy when you consider things from another point of view."

How very appropriate and fitting! It may sound simple, it IS that simple.

Welcome to My Blog About Running!

One of my favorite pastimes is running! This is extraordinary, because as an adolescent I was pretty inactive and overweight. My running habits have been a progression. In my early 20's I joined Lucille Roberts and fell in love with step aerobics! Some days I would go on the tread mill. I was amazed one day when I spent 45 minutes on the treadmill. You see, I didn't really think that I could be an active and fit person since I never really was one before. I didn't know enough about exercise back then to know that anyone can increase their fitness level through consistent and moderate exercise.

Around the same time my brother was dating a woman who would later become one of my closest friends. We used to go to VanCortlandt Park in the Bronx (where I lived) and run around the track together. I started running 2-3 miles in one shot and felt awesome! I was hooked!

Over the years I have become less self-concious about running in public. In the beginning I actually sometimes preferred the treadmill at the gym. As I be-friended some lady runners who would come to my fitness classes, I learned more about running outside and would often discuss this with them and ask them for their advice. I used to try to run early in the morning before my husband went to work, and this actually worked for several months.

Nowadays I prefer to run after he comes home and on the weekends. I run in all elements and weather. Running in the rain is VERY fun and cleansing! I run all year long. Of course if it is bitter cold or heavy rain or snow I will opt to stay in. The thought of running on a treadmill now really does not appeal to me at all!

Here is where I will share my experiences and insights about running and life. I thank you for visiting and I hope that you enjoy my posts!
